NUMB

52 numbers, 4 spectators, 1 magician. And a 1 in 6.5 million chance of a double prediction!

Description

52 numbers, 4 spectators, 1 magician.
And a 1 out of 6.5 million chance!

The magician takes out a deck of cards with numbers written on the backs from 1 to 52, well mixed. He takes a piece of paper and writes a prediction on it. Not really satisfied, he removes an additional piece of paper and writes a second prediction on it, stating, that at least one of them should be correct in the end. Both predictions are then placed face down in full view. Four spectators are asked to name a playing card each.

The magician removes all four named cards from the deck and turns them face down, revealing the numbers written on the backs. Together with the spectators he totals the four numbers which equals, for instance, 115. Announcing that he was sure at least one prediction would match, he turns over one of the predictions he made: it says 115!

As an afterthought, he also turns over the first prediction. It shows all four numbers and they all match the numbers chosen by the spectators! A perfect match!

One of the most puzzling things I saw at FFFF!

I’ve been performing this trick for many years and it is my favourite!
    Advantages:
    + very easy to do
+ plays well close up or even on stage with the right audience management you can entertain big audiences
    Disadvantages:
    – cannot be repeated for the same audience
    – for some people it could be that the instructions are only in written form, no video provided
    Keep in mind:
    – you are provided the deck, but have to write the numbers on the cards by yourself
    – depending on the permanent marker used, it could leave yellow stains (imprints of numbers) on the next to cards, which happened to me… friend of mine used a Sharpie brand marker and was fine, anyway, make sure to let the ink dry before putting the cards together in the card case and if the yellow imprints appear, do not worry, it is well managable when being able to control the attention of your spectators as I can tell from my experience 🙂

If you let the writing dry properly (it needs a bit longer than on regular cards), then you are fine. The yellowing on the other card is only happening if you leave your cards in a hot environment like in your car during sunshine. The fumes of the writing are dissolved in the heat and move to the opposite card, not THROUGH the card. (BTW: It might be that we found a method to change the numbers, we still go through testing)
